Join The Chorus
In keeping with our mission of fostering excellence in choral music, those persons wishing to sing with HRMC are required to audition. "Audition" is a frightening word to many people. Please don't be intimidated. The HRMC makes the process as painless as possible. You will be asked to sing for the Artistic Director with (possibly) an accompanist present. So there will be, at most, three of you in the room. This is an opportunity for the Artistic Director to gain an understanding of your musical skill and to place your voice appropriately in the chorus. The vocal talents of members of the chorus vary greatly from thoroughly amateur singers to trained professionals.
The decision to admit you as a singing member of the chorus rests solely with the Artistic Director, who will consider many things, not the least of which are your ability to match pitch (sing on key) and remember musical phrases. The ability to read music and particularly sight reading skills are helpful, but not required.
On the off chance that you should not meet the requirements, you're encouraged to try again during the next open audition period. In the interim, there are numerous non-singing volunteer positions within the chorus which you would certainly enjoy and we would welcome you as a member of our chorus family whether you are singing or you are not.
Open auditons for the super-exciting 2011-2012 season will be held from 3:00 PM - 6:30 PM on August 21,2011 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Enter the church through the entrance at 1009 West Princess Anne Road in Norfolk's West Ghent neighborhood.
